The head of BBC Factual and Learning, Michael Stevenson, has quite his £233,000 a year job after a bizarre spat with the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

It appears to be something to do with the controversial plan to spend £150 million on educational content to be delivered over the Internet.

The DCMS was uneasy about this plan and delayed giving its approval.  While it cogitated, the BBC was supposed not to proceed with the details of the plan.  But apparently, Stevenson did, and now he has lost his job.
