Invitation to the WW2 People's War Open Day
Oct 7th, 2005, 4:51pm

Like 1940’s music? Interested in the role of the BBC during the Second World War? Would you like to talk to other people about their memories of living through WW2? If so you might be interested in coming to a free BBC event.

The People’s War Party is being held at TVC and will be an excellent opportunity for people to contribute photographs and memories to the People’s War website. Help will be on hand to support people who want to contribute, and there will be plenty of opportunities to share ideas and memories with others. Refreshments will be available, and there will be 1940’s style entertainment. An exhibition detailing the role of the BBC during the war will be on show, and a number of people will be giving talks about life during the war. The People’s War Party will run from 11pm-3pm on Thursday 17th November 2005.

This exclusive BBC event is open to staff, retired BBC staff and their friends and families, with priority being given to those who lived through WW2. Limited tickets are available and can be requested by emailing ww2events@bbc.co.uk or calling Vanessa Norris on 020 8752 6922.

We are also hoping to encourage people across the country to take part in the project – with a series of events in the Nations and Regions. The Open Centres and Buses will be running a weekend of photothon events, where members of the public can contribute their photographs to the site, and there will be a number of staff events over the coming months. For details of these events please email ww2events@bbc.co.uk.

If you or your family remember the Second World War you can still contribute to the website. We are particularly looking for family photographs that capture a war time memory. The website closes for contributions at the end of the year, so you still have time to contribute to the largest archive of its kind in the world. The website can be found at bbc.co.uk/ww2. Please follow the online instructions – or call 08000 150 950 for information about how you can take part.
