I remember Fred Mallet from the BBC in Glasgow I also remember his co-workers Lachie & John. Fred was larger than life and a cheerful cheeky cockney geezer into the bargain. BBC Scotland had a lovely club in a terraced building just over the river in Botanic Crescent, I would pop in of a Friday after work for a pint and Fred would invariably be standing, cigarette in hand playing one of the big jackpot fruit machines. He would say hello and so as not to lose his place on the machine he'd ask me if I would go get him a pint, one for myself and the change would go in the 'puggie'! I was in my teens when I first met Fred and he must have been in his fifties, that was back in the mid 1970's so odds are he's gone to that big processing lab in the sky. A lovely guy.
