At the beginning of December, Alex was reading the 0500 World Sevice / Radio 4 news bulletin when his worst dream came true. He was suddenly struck-down with the wierd symptoms which he describes so vividly in the article.

He was supported by the rest of the team, and after a large dose of sugar, he was able to rejoin the programme six minutes later.
