DICK MACMILLAN OBIT
Nov 3rd, 2015, 12:37pm

,
A belated entry by Brian Walker.  DIck Macmillan for many years the senior News cameraman in Belfast, died on Wednesday 7 October aged 92. Dick was one of the pioneers of his profession. With his soundman Brian Willis he covered the daily grind of the Northern Ireland Troubles from the late 1960s to the early 80s. As former RAF aircraftsmen, they were the essential ground troops guiding a large vast number of national and regional news subalterns in the street craft of covering mounting violence, including Tony Hall, Jeremy Paxman, Gavin Hewitt , Nick Witchell, Lance Price and James Robbins. His death came in a period where too many old friends were passing away. RIP Martin Cox and Peter Donaldson. The Today programme handled Peter’s passing very warmly but  deftly - no easy task.
