THE question....
Aug 23rd, 2015, 10:45pm

"What can the BBC do for Britain?"

That is the question the BBC will ask during the forthcoming Edinburgh International TV Festival.

According to "The Daily Telegraph",  in an article written by Hannah Furness (Arts Correspondent),

"The BBC is to warn of serious economic consequences if it is subject to a cut in the licence fee, claiming it would cost Britain hundreds of millions of pounds and inflict huge job losses outside the corporation."

She says that BBC executives are going to use the festival to make the BBC's case by quoting research by financial institution PwC which claims, amongst other things:-

a 15% increase in the TV licence fee over 5 years would boost the GDP of the UK by £319m and create 16,200 jobs,

a 25% cut in the TV licence fee over 5 years would reduce spending on new UK TV programming by £334m.
