A Trustee's view.
Jul 7th, 2015, 7:31pm

Diane Coyle OBE, was a BBC Trustee from 2006 until April 2015.
(She was acting Chair from May to October 2015).

Her views have been published by "The Guardian" in their "Comment Is Free" section.

It may be found here.

She refers to the "reclassification" of the BBC in 2006 by the "Office for National Statistics". This reclassification from being a Public Corporation to a part of government permitted the latest 'heist' (as she describes it).

She argues that the licence fee should be "set by an independent body" - 55% of the public are said to agree with this, as opposed to the 23% who think that the government or MPs should decide.

Diane is married to Rory Cellan-Jones (BBC News Technology correspondent).
