That's not quite true yet Dickie. BBC Production is still part of the Beeb although the intention is to turn it into a wholly owned company (called "Studios" ironically) similar to what S&PP are now.
This is from BBC production webpage:

Yet how many programmes - made by and in ITV studios - are aired by the BBC.
Seems reasonably fair that, given the Beeb have next to no studios of their own now (certainly in much of England - barring Bristol of course) they should have a crack at making some for ITV and Sky in what they have got.
Or do you think we're talking Netflix and Amazon here?
