Has BBC backed the wrong horse again?
Sep 5th, 2013, 8:43pm

I understand BBC Film Library are busy dumping all the archive material on LTO (computer based storage) tapes rather than keeping 2", 1", U-Matic, Beta versions.
The Register notes however:-
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/09/03/tdks_canary_dead_in_tape_coal_mine/ which may mark the imminent demise of the format.
I wonder if they should have put everything onto colour Film Recording - which will probably be viewable as long as the early 1900s films.
No wait! Can one get proper film still? As opposed to what everyone (including those who should know better within the BBC) calls "filming" which is actually electronic camera recording on tape or nowadays solid state memory?
