"BBC NOW"
May 18th, 2013, 12:51pm

New ways of viewing BBC content.

A blog here by Elenie Sharp discussed a new-look to the BBC homepage.

"The BBC publishes and broadcasts thousands of pieces of content a day both online and across our stations and channels. BBC Now gives us a new way to share more of this content but in a digestible way."

What a complicated mess and nothing staying where one expects to find it by habit.

Thats why I think quite a lot of people (me anyway) use the BBC News page as aBBC "Home page" as it is simple and uncluttered and gets one where one wants by the top menu.

I agree with the above comment.

The BBC website is probably the most comprehensive of it's kind--certainly one of the most informative and valued BBC services.
However the sense I have is that the homepage has been designed by committee and therefore something of a muddled rainbow, lacking in focus.
Just by listing everything to the right of the screen adds to the confusion. Example--all visitors to the site need a re-direction to their preferred route.
The good thing about the News page is that it has all of what most people want ät a glance--with the main keys for TV, Radio or Iplayer clearly visible above.
You can also customise the news page--which is fantastic. I cannot see how to customise the main homepage

I hope not Roundabout! What I suspect is that as the site grows and grows, it is much easier to technically encourage users to "filter" requirements rather than "customise". Probably 100 tame  users were asked what their preferences were and 90 said they preferred the filter option-thus the On Line business model can flaunt a 90% preference for filtering. The old performance indicator trick?

"The Independent" reports on the BBC Trust's review of the BBC website here.

"Six of of 10 UK internet users access BBC website - but even that is below target
BBC Online also failing to meet target of 22m clickthroughs a year for connecting users to external sites"

"The report also revealed that audience appreciation index (AI) figures have fallen from a high of 83 in 2008 to 78 in 2013. The AI dropped as low as 72 last year, following changes to the site including a relaunch of the BBC Online news service."
