Retired Staff Event at TVC
Mar 9th, 2013, 4:56pm

I'm just back (Saturday 9 March) from an afternoon party at Television Centre. It was nominally for retired staff and offered them an opportunity to say goodbye to the building. Despite telephoning and emailing the BBC Club for a ticket I was told that it was fully booked. On the day there were 27 spare places. The general view of those present was that it was very poorly publicised, but successful nonetheless.

By far the largest group was from the former BBC TV Presentation department. I left there 32 years ago and thought I'd forgotten my old colleagues (and they me) but I was wrong - it was a wonderful event.

Michael Fish and Bill Giles were there, with their former boss John Teather (Head of Weather), David Allan (former BBC continuity announcer), comedy producer Bill Wilson and many other familiar faces and voices.

There are two further closing down parties in the building. The next is on 21st March in TC3 and TC4, and the BBC Club is also holding a closing down party on 27th March (the INCORRECT date of the 28th has been widely publicised, including via Prospero). All these events are ticket only and restricted to staff or retired staff. I do not yet have contact details for tickets, but will post them here if I'm able to obtain the information.
