... meanwhile, ITV Studios have bought their London headquarters on the South Bank.

The Guardian covers this story here. (28/1/2013).

"ITV has purchased its headquarters and studios on London's South Bank for £56m....
The TV company has had an association with London Television Centre – formerly known as London Studios – for more than 40 years. The 22-storey tower and studio complex, overlooking the Thames, was purpose built for ITV company London Weekend Television in the early 1970s."

Also Ian Stubbs has been to TC -

"I was over at TVC today. TC6 has two weeks to go before it's stripped out. TC8 goes to the end of March. Tea bars etc. are closed already.

There is, however, a grand plan for redevelopment and a web site to keep an eye on - www.television-centre.com

It has a holding page as I write but will go live tomorrow, apparently, with future plans. There will be an exhibition in TVC reception tomorrow and Wednesday too.

Just thought you and the rest of the tech-ops list might be interested.

Just come back from TC (via the Club!)
Exhibition open with lots of drawings and visualisations and a model.
Basically TC 1-3 will be kept as will the ring of offices (and the fountain) and also the spur for use by Worldwide. The bit in front becomes a "Public space re-integrating the area with local residents"
The East tower goes and is replaced by a new "slimline" block of flats nerer the railway. The building behind TC1, the scenery block, the restaurant block and the ring road and remining studios go to make more flats/houses.
Everywhere getting sadder by the day with empty offices full of gash furniture and electic bits. TC4 gallery already moved to Elstree Film Studios and being used with a SiS OB truck. TC1 full of audience rostra being overhauled before move to ELS. Met a mate who is involved in the move of Post Production to Charlotte Street "as cheaply as possible"
very sad!!

More exhibitions coming up. Details at their website as above.

"Licence fee payers will soon be able to watch, listen, and live in BBC Television Centre in west London after plans were unveiled to turn the famous doughnut-shaped inner ring of the complex into executive apartments".

"BBC shows such as Strictly Come Dancing will return to the newly refurbished site, but large swathes of the corporation's staff and output have already left and are not coming back."

"London's BBC Television Centre is to be developed into a hotel, flats and offices but will also see the broadcaster make programmes in three of its studios.

The £200m development plans for the historic site have revealed the building's forecourt will be opened up to the public.

The main circular building, known to BBC employees as "the doughnut", will become a hotel and apartments.

Studios 1, 2 and 3 will be refitted. "

Quite possibly a laughably futile gesture on my part. However, in a moment of deep frustration tonight, something made me set up a petition. Never done it before.

I'm arguing that studio TC8 at TV Centre should be retained by the BBC as part of their redevelopment of the building.

I don't know if any of you feel the same, or even think it matters. However, if anyone, particularly in the industry, perhaps agrees with me, the petition is here:
