PETER WILTSHIRE
Nov 6th, 2011, 6:29pm

Former BBC Children's BBC producer/director/writer on classic's like Play School & Vision On has passed away after a fall at home which led to a fatal stroke which he never recovered from and sadly died on 27th October aged 81.

Peter joined the BBC in 1953 as a cameraman and during this time he contributed stories to the Packi the Elephant stories that Tony Hart drew for Blue Peter (1959-61).  He later worked again with this inspirational artist and presenter when he directed Vision On (1969-70).  Peter began writing scripts for Play School in 1964 and in September 1965 started an attachment with the Children’s Department.  He left the BBC staff in 1983 and worked freelance for two years writing stories for the Buttons children's comic.

His nephew Steve Gorman said Peter had enjoyed a wonderful life
and that Peter had told him that the highlight of his later life, since he retired, was attending the launch of my book at BAFTA and seeing again so many old colleagues and how much he and his family had enjoyed the books which was lovely to hear and nice that he had the chance to see some of you again at such a happy occasion.

His funeral takes place on 15th November at All Saints Church, Beeston, Norfolk and Steve said they are planning to play the Play School & Play Away themes at the end of the service.  Steve said he understood if people can't attend and if anyone wished to make a small contribution, they could do so to the Children's Society which Peter & Peg supported for many years.  Steve's contact details are: 35 Westcliff Park Drive, Westcliff on sea, Essex SS0 9LN.
