A Thought for Today
Oct 6th, 2011, 7:03am

As we on this site discuss the part we  played in the history of broadcasting and indeed national and local events and society it is sobering today to think that as we wait to hear about the proposed cuts that in the words of David Elstein on the Today programme this morning that for the first time in it's 89 years the BBC starts to contract. It feels  that it is a time to consider the contraction of this country's greatest and most innovative organisation and to rejoice that we who worked for the BBC were there 'at the right time' and sympathise with anyone who falls foul of the cuts today.

Hear Hear. Not only do I look back and appreciate my 30 years in the Beeb I am even more grateful that I appreciated it at the time and not just in hindsight

I agree whole-heartedly too. My 30 years ended in 1992 and I'd always felt proud to be part of the B.B.C. as it was then!
