In last week's edition, there was a piece talking about Plymouth's end of tape for news gathering and turning to solid state storage in cameras. It had obviously not been checked by anyone technical and contained an important error.

Fortunately, there is at least one person in South East Today with some technical knowledge and he writes in this weeks edition thus:-

".... You say pictures are recorded in HD and downgraded onto high capacity standard definition (SD) cards for editing and transmission.
HD pictures are generally recorded onto SD (Secure Digital) cards and then (usually) downgraded to SD (standard definition) somewhere during the editing process prior to TX.
A minor point, but quite an important one I think"

This puts me in mind of a story from a News crew who said that they had gone over to SD cards and now (because of the cost) unless the piece is downloaded a.s.a.p. to enable re-use, it can get lost as the tape doesn't end up on a shelf for later showing again.
They also said (and confirmed by someone else) that workshops are now using old Digi tape boxes, cutting up foam to fit inside with little slots to take SD cards as they so easily get lost/damaged.

Shades of re-use of 1/4" audio and 2" video tape being wiped and contents lost?
