Trouble at Wimbledon
Jun 22nd, 2011, 9:41am

I have heard that there has been some discontent at Wimbledon this year amongst the crews. It an effort to pay tribute to that well worn phrase "cost cutting" (or was it an oversight?) crews were not offered car parking. Despite the fact that since the BBC began televising the event car parking had always been given free.
When some of the crew had accepted a lower fee already this represented an insult from CIS who were providing the facility for the coverage on the BBC. The BBC already has the reputation for driving down rates to a level making more senior people in the industry to think twice or not to offer their services to the BBC or the people who are commissioned by the BBC.
The latest news is that the Wimbledon trouble seems now to have gone away with car parking tickets mysteriously turning up. An oversight or an attempt at tightening our belts where it hurts again perhaps?

In my opinion...There was a time when the BBC was seen as the yardstick which every other broadcaster used as a measure for perfection and professionalism.
Not these days i'm afraid, every other broadcaster and member of the public now know exactly what the BBC is all about given the way it mistreats its staff, the on air gaffes and mistakes, the constant threat of deep financial cuts and selling off assets due to the weak 'yes men' who say "how high"? when the government shout jump.
This is just another erosion of working conditions that if left well alone loyal staff would put up with the lack of pay increases and salami slicing. When they moved the goalposts regarding schedule 'A' payments for overnights, ditched the working hours regulations and started quibbling about meal claims they signalled that as long as the shift gets done the BBC actually don't care about anything else.
The job is hard enough without having to worry about where you are going to park your vehicle. Angry
