Ivan Howlett
Jul 26th, 2008, 10:42pm

The founding Managing Editor of BBC Radio Suffolk, Ivan died at home in Suffolk on July 8 after a long cancer-related illness. He left the BBC staff in the mid-90s to become a regular producer of R4 history-related documentaries as well as R2 and R3 programming. He entered BBC local radio at Brighton through the 'gofer' route, contributing theatre and music reviews to the station's output, but his heart lay in his native Suffolk and he grabbed the opportunity to open the BBC local station there. His devoted wife, Lindsey, and their four children - Adam, Oliver, Nancy and Tom were joined by close friends in the North Chapel of Ipswich Crematorium for his funeral and Lavenham Parish Church is expected to be similarly crowded at a memorial service late in September.
