Derek Ratcliffe
Oct 19th, 2007, 10:08am

The death has been reported of Derek Ratcliffe, a producer in the earliest days of local radio.  He had worked at Radio Stoke and then for a long period at Radio Humberside, where he did stints as both a news and general producer.  One of his jobs involved covering the "south bank" of the Humber in what is now North Lincolnshire again.  He worked from unmanned out-studios at Scunthorpe, Goole and Barton-on-Humber, in the days before the building of the Humber Bridge.  He covered the Flixborough disaster in which more than 20 people were killed when a chemical plant blew up.  Later he was attached to Radio 2 publicity.
