David Waine Head of Midlands and East 1983 - 1994
Jan 25th, 2021, 3:33pm

David Waine, Head of Broadcasting Midlands and East passed away in hospital yesterday. The BBC ran in his veins - a true gentleman and a friend to all his staff. A great leader through changing times, supporting all who tried to swim against the tide of the Thatcherite policies decimating the Corporation at the time, and John Birt's sounding of the death knell of the creative programme hub that was Pebble Mill. If only there were people of his calibre still in place!
RIP.

So many people throughout the world of local radio will be extremely saddened by David's passing. David's addiction to fair play served me well. A great manager.
