John Allen, who worked in the Radio Newsroom for many years and ended up running it, has died.  He had been suffering from cancer for three years.  
John had trained on the Leicester Mercury and won the NCTJ national award for best trainee, before joining the BBC.  He was an extremely good journalist but always a modest, kind and funny man.
