Pete Simkin
Jul 9th, 2020, 2:52pm

It is with great sadness that our friend and colleague, Pete Simpkin, passed away peacefully during the early hours of Monday, 29th June, his wife Jan, was with him. He had been suffering from throat cancer for approximately six months receiving chemotherapy, but unfortunately was unable to beat the beast - only five years ago he had overcome prostate cancer and sadly lost his former wife, Patti to cancer around the same time.  He decided to become a visitor for BBC pensioners, which he enjoyed.
Pete first came to Pebble Mill from Southampton, where he was originally an engineer, later moving to Radio Birmingham/WM as Presenter/Producer in early 70s.
Pete, always a gentleman, kind and approachable, with a great sense of humour. Always had a smile. A great 'bubbly' person with a very positive mental attitude, and could always make you laugh and cheer you up if feeling low.
He and his wife Jan, have only been married for a short time, but although not long, they have had a very happy time together and he will be missed him greatly.
The funeral is on Tuesday, July 21st, at 11:30, Robin Hood Crematorium, but due to current circumstances, there are limitations to the numbers that can attend on the day.
it is hoped that a Celebration of his life can take place on what would have been his birthday, 3rd April 2021.
A tribute page for memories of Pete, along with any photos for sharing has been set up - click on link below:-
