Michael Talbot-Smith MIPS
May 19th, 2020, 2:31pm

The great character that was Mike Talbot-Smith, retired BBC Wood Norton trainer, recently passed away in his care home in Scotland.  His funeral is tomorrow 20th.May 1.00pm. at Wick Parish Church, near Pershore, where he lived for many years. Family only. RIP Michael.

Mike was one of the first to teach many audio skills to those who passed through the doors of Wood Norton.  More importantly, he shared his vast knowledge of broadcast sound and gave encouragement to all who he came to tutor, and became a friend to many more. It was a privilege to have met him, albeit for the short periods spent during courses at WN.  All was done with a mischievous twinkle in his eye.  He was a character never to be forgotten and his memory lives on in the five handbooks he wrote between 1990 and 2001, all still available from Focal Press.

His like will not be seen again.
