Paul (Gobby) Lambert, a former BBC Producer has died aged 61.

He left the BBC some years ago to join UKIP as its communications director.

When he left in 2014, the BBC News web-site looked back at some of his 'finer moments'. It may be found here.

He shared some of the tricks of his trade, here.

Michael Crick described him as 'master of the political doorstep'.

Robert Peston tweeted;. "Desperately sad. At the BBC, Gobby was the Millbank operation. He had the best nose for a story. It was terrible when he left. And he was incredibly kind and supportive. A gent of the old school".
