I heard today that Peter Bale has died. I've found no obituaries yet, but there is a bit about his time in the Natural History Unit here.

I was privlidged to have worked with Peter, or perhaps I should write worked for him. My work in Technical Investigations at TVC got me involved in the development of the infrared capability of the vidicon tube and the provision of ir lighting. All that seemed to be available then was military ir equipment but the results from this were not good for broadcasting, fine for surveilence but not broadcast quality.

Meeting Peter and the crew from Bristol was a real pleasure for me.

My husband Peter Bale died peacefully in his sleep on 19th January 2019 aged 91.   His obituary will hopefully appear in the next edition of Prospero - I have sent it in.   Peter wrote at length about the "Eye in the Night" needed for Badgerwatch in "Wildlife through the Camera" (Introduction by David Attenborough)  published by the BBC.   I worked for him for six years leaving in 1972 when I left the BBC.
