Former Transcription Recording Unit Senior Engineer and Operations Manager, Pete died on the 22nd November from an aggressive cancer of his liver at his home in Tourinya France. A home which he shared for many years with his wife Sandy and his best pal the late Dave Mulkeen (They were known as The Three Musketeers!). At the BBC Pete worked on everything from quiz shows such as “My Word!” and “My Music!” and was at home with music sessions both for the BBC and the commercial world. An Exec member of the IPS (formally IBS), Pete was for many years the senior engineer recording the Wavendon Jazz festival in the garden of John Dankwoth and Cleo Laine along with leading the team at numerous other music festivals. When he left the BBC, Pete set himself up with his own mobile recording vehicle (As The Crow Flies) and continued working on BBC programmes including “Jazz on 3” and more recently, “The Kitchen Cabinet”, “The Unbelievable Truth” and some of the theatre tours of “I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue”. He was the senior engineer for many recordings of Gardener’s Question Time and it is perhaps an indication of how much people enjoyed having Pete working on their show that on the edition of GQT broadcast on 9th December 2016, the chairman Eric Robson gave an on-air tribute to Pete. He is missed by his many friends in the industry.

The on-air tribute to Pete may be heard here, at about 31.20.
