Alec Wheal
May 30th, 2016, 9:39pm

Alec David Wheal died on the 18th May.

Alec was a Senior Cameraman for several decades. He worked on countless programmes including "Doctor Who" on which he worked in the 70's, 80's and the early 90's.

When Alec left the BBC he went to Sky and helped to set-up "The House Of Commons" Broadcasts.

Information about his funeral may be found on the Co-Op Funeralcare site, here.

There will be a funeral gathering afterwards, at The Bridge Hotel and Boat House Restaurant, Bridge Road, Chertsey, Surrey, KT16 8JZ. It will be from 5pm until about 7.30pm.

"The Doctor Who Companion" web-site pays tribute to Alec, here, and quotes The Fifth Doctor- Peter Davidson- who said of Alec:-
" “As the senior Cameraman, Alec Wheal was the rock of the studio recordings of Doctor Who, both during my time, and throughout the seventies and eighties. We developed an understanding, so that in those moments of panic as the clock ticked round to 10pm, the end result was always as good as it was.”"

Alec was also camera supervisor on many episodes of "Last Of the Summer Wine" in 1986.

It was Alec's wish that there should be no flowers, but any donations should be sent to The Cornwall Air Ambulance. A cause close to Alec's heart.
