The BBC News web-site for Derby has published a tribute to the 33 year-old BBC Radio Derby presenter who has died having fought skin cancer for the last 10 years.

Their tribute to Colin may be found here.

"Radio Derby's editor Simon Cornes said: "Reporter, producer, commentator, presenter - Colin was all of those. You're lucky in radio if you're good at one of these things but Colin's talent was a rare one and he was extraordinarily accomplished at all of them. He made it seem easy. We know it isn't.

Earlier this year, working with the Derby Telegraph and charity Skcin, the presenter launched the Colin Bloomfield Melanoma Appeal."

More information regarding Colin's appeal may be found here.

This message was from Colin:-

"I haven’t given up hope of a ‘miracle’ cure. The longer this disease can be kept stable, the more chance I have of that happening. That’s why this appeal is so important. It’s often perceived that skin cancer ‘isn’t that serious.’ It is. For people in my position, it’s often described as a death sentence.
But with medical advances and education, it doesn’t have to be. New groundbreaking treatments are being introduced giving fresh hope to patients and their families.
There’s still so much work to be done - and this appeal could make a real difference in helping fight back against this brutal disease”.

"Radio Today" has a tribute to Colin here.

In it they report that listeners have already donated over £60,000 and a colleague is running in the London Marathon to increase donations.

"BBC Radio Derby’s editor Simon Cornes told the BBC: “Reporter, producer, commentator, presenter – Colin was all of those. You’re lucky in radio if you’re good at one of these things but Colin’s talent was a rare one and he was extraordinarily accomplished at all of them. He made it seem easy. We know it isn’t.

“If you were designing the perfect colleague you’d come up with Colin. His modesty was disarming but it was his warmth and his positive attitude to life that made him so popular with everyone at Radio Derby. We’ve lost our friend but it’s a mark of the man that so many of our listeners feel they’ve lost their friend too. All of us are going to miss him dreadfully.”"
