Gwen Long
Mar 18th, 2015, 9:31pm

Gwen Long, a long-serving typist in the Radio Newsroom, has died.  One of her sons, the MP Adam Afriye, said she took the job at BH, working night shifts, so that she could pay for his education.  He said:  "She was my rock, the gel at the centre of my life."

I worked with Gwen in the Radio Newsroom for almost fifteen years.  She was very popular and a loyal friend. When we both retired we kept in touch, and in spite of her having Parkinson's Disease she always came to our annual lunches.  After she went into sheltered accommodation we (the other typists on the shift) and I took the lunch to her. Her unfailing sense of humour was infectious and she will be greatly missed.
