Here is a note from Clive's daughter Kate with details of the funeral, donations etc.

Dear friends and family,

We are very sorry to tell you that Clive Lawrence died on Saturday 9 August after a long illness.
He was 69 and passed away 2 weeks after the birth of his first grandson, William.

He died peacefully with his wife, three daughters, two son-in-laws, grandson, and sister-in-law by his bedside. He had the best medical treatment and we are extremely grateful to the wonderful doctors, nurses and carers from Macmillan, the Wisdom Hospice, and Birmingham and Medway NHS trusts, for their support.

We would be delighted if you would join us next
Wednesday, 20th August to celebrate his life.

The funeral will be held at 1 pm (arrive 12.45pm)
at GARDEN OF ENGLAND CREMATORIUM, Sheppey Way,
Bobbing, Sittingbourne, Kent, ME9 8GZ
http://www.woollardandkent.co.uk/bobbingcrem.asp

....and after to toast Clive with a pint of
Master Brew at The Tudor Rose, Chestnut Street,
Sittingbourne, ME9 8BT from 2.15pm.

Charities

Rather than flowers, we would prefer donations to Rotary International, which Clive was a member of
for 20 years, through the John Weir funeral directors: http://www.johnweir.co.uk/

Book of photos and memories

We are preparing a book of remembrance, and we welcome you to add a note to it on the day. If
you have one, please bring a photo of you and Clive together to add to the book or, if you are not coming on the 20th, you can email us your message and picture.

We will be making a short presentation at the reception which will concentrate on memories of
Clive. We would love you to share a short anecdote from your relationship with him, either
school, university, during his career, Rotary etc., please let us know by email, or on the day, and we will give you an opportunity to tell others.

RSVP

Please let us know if you are able to come to one or both parts of the event and, if so, who will be coming from your family or organisation.

Accommodation

If need to stay overnight, rooms are available at
the Premier Inn in Gillingham (around £75 per night, book online for the cheapest rate). Please let us know if you will be staying in the area as
we’ll be meeting friends and family in the evenings of the 19th and 20th.

Finally, please share this message with any other friends and family who knew Clive and may want to join us.

Roy Martin has posted a tribute to Clive here at "Radiotoday".

"Clive’s former BBC colleague and close personal friend Garry Selfridge led the tributes: “Clive combined high professional standards as a broadcaster and BBC manager with genuine interest in colleagues, contributors and his audience members. He was a constant – loyal, trustworthy, insightful and always supportive. Clive was a rare breed in the competitive and testing environment of broadcast journalism and will be greatly missed by those who really knew him.”"

This is taken from the Medway Messenger:

Tributes have continued to pour in for broadcaster and campaigner Clive Lawrence who has died at the age of 69.

For more than 20 years he was programme organiser at BBC Radio Kent, then based at Sun Pier in Chatham, but he made an equally big mark on Medway with his activities outside his work.

He was an active member of Medway Rotary Club helping to organise several fundraising events, including the popular Santa Fun Run in Rochester. He was also heavily involved in the creation of the Medway Sunlight Rotary Club in Gillingham and was a governor at Deanwood Primary School in Rainham for 13 years.

More recently he had become better known for his outspoken views on the heated Thames Estuary airport debate. He was campaign director for the business lobby group Demand for Regeneration in Kent (DRINK), which backed Mayor Boris Johnson’s controversial plans.

Mr Lawrence, who lived with wife Marie in Rainham, was a proud dad to three grown-up daughters and had become a grandfather for the first time when grandson William was born just two weeks before he passed away.

Radio Kent presenter John Warnett said: “Clive did not have a bad bone in his body. He was never unkind and a very patient and understanding man.”

Station sports editor Neil Bell said: “Although he was on the management side he was also a very talented broadcaster and would always step in if there was an emergency and with great gusto. He was engaging, thoughtful and entertaining.”

Fellow Rotarian Geoff Waters said Mr Lawrence had remained positive throughout his treatment for cancer. Only last week he had travelled to Birmingham to see if he was suitable for experimental medication and it is believed he was due to start treatment on Monday.

Former mayor of Gillingham, Dai Liyanage, a fellow DRINK campaigner and a close friend, said: “He was a genuine guy who wanted to do so much for the community.”

His funeral is at the Garden of England Cemetery at Bobbing at 1pm on Wednesday 20.

Family and friends are welcome and raise a toast to his life at The Tudor Rose, Chestnut Street, Sittingbourne ,afterwards. Donations made to Rotary International through funeral director John Weir, High Street, Rainham.
