Lawrie Bloomfield
May 24th, 2014, 12:25pm

Lawrie Bloomfield, the first Editor of BBC Radio Shropshire, died last week at the age of 80. He was one of Local Radio’s great characters and after working as PO at Radio Solent he became Manager of Radio Lincolnshire in 1982. He moved on two years later to start Radio Shropshire.

The family’s now confirmed that the funeral will be held at Bicton Church, nr Shrewsbury on Friday May 30 at 1300, with refreshments to follow at Shrewsbury Town F.C.

I would be most grateful if you could pass this information on to anyone who may have asked and to others who may have known Lawrie.

Lawrie’s wife Alison is also planning to put up a big screen with photos, so if anyone has any images to share they would be gratefully received.

Sadly, it must be mentioned that Lawrie and Alison's son, Colin, breakfast presenter on Radio Derby, is being treated for cancer at the moment.
