I had the pleasure of working with Bob throughout his years as a presenter of The Today Programme. He was a delight both on and off mic.
When in 1973 the film The Exorcist was drawing the crowds I produced Bob’s delightful interview with the Editor of the Exeter Report (Exorcism: The Report of a Commission Convened by the Bishop of Exeter), the Chief Exorcist of the Church of England, Dom Robert Petitpierre. Here was a non-meeting of brilliant minds; they lived in different intellectual worlds. Both transparently honest in their different perceptions of reality. I don’t think I ever saw Bob so nonplussed again.
