Denis Mitchell & regional radio features
Oct 17th, 2007, 2:21pm

Hello there,

I'm a PHD student looking at the use of oral history on radio. I'd appreciate very much anyone who has any information on the radio career of Denis Mitchell in the North Region during the mid-fifties. He was a pioneer of the use of the mobile tape recorder for a series called 'People Talking' and later became a very innovative documentarian for television.

Did anyone by any chance work with him or know him?
Any other information on radio features which incorporate actuality made in the BBC regions (especially North Region and Ulster would be very useful indeed).

Best Wishes,
Ieuan Franklin.

The Ulster Folk Museum which holds archive sound material from BBC N Ireland may be able to help.

Though I worked in news, I suspect it may include early actuality from some of the region's feature programmes produced by people like Sam Hanna Bell, Sam Denton etc.

The main switchboard phone number is
(028) 90-428-428

Let us know how you get on
