According to TVBEurope, here,

"BBC director general Tony Hall has announced plans to have two-thirds of employees based outside London by 2027, following accusations of metropolitan bias"..

This will not go down well with London based staff, but quite frankly -will it make any difference?

DG Tony Hall has revealed his plan to launch a new tech hub in Newcastle (as part of his address to staff).

Hall said this new hub would “help deliver a new generation of software engineers, designers, product developers and data scientists” describing Newcastle as a city “looking for fresh ideas, with two successful universities and a 'digital cluster' growing faster than any area outside London.”

The existing building will be used for the expansion of the design and engineering teams - with staff there working on BBC iPlayer, BBC Sounds and BBC News Online. [I wonder if this is to be the new 'core' of the BBC going forward?]

This announcement follows that from Monday - when he said that "two-thirds of the BBC’s staff will be based outside London by 2027." [Forced repatriation, perhaps?]

I suppose the savings in London Weighting of about £4,000 per year on the 2800 staff Tony Hall wants to move to the country. We all know how much better it is to live outside the London cauldron, so well worth the move, but I doubt very much whether the overpaid front of camera staff will notice.
The total save in LW works out as £11,200,000 a year. that would pay a few pensioners licences!
I moved away in 1973 & have never regretted a moment. Just make sure that Senior Management get moved as well, Tony. :D
