Title: New Controllers
Post by Administrator on Apr 24th, 2019, 5:35pm

According to "BroadbandTVNews", here,

The BBC is to appoint dedicated controllers to run the BBC iPlayer

and its much-publicised radio and podcast counterpart BBC Sounds.

Save a post, scrap "BBC Sounds".

It doesn't work.

Will anyone notice the difference?

In an email to staff, James Purnell Director of Radio and Education says "We’ve made a great start with more than two million app downloads and brilliant new music mixes and podcasts … In just one year, our monthly downloads have gone up by four million to 24 million."

“But we are also launching into a competitive, relatively mature market. Gaining audiences is going to require determination and focus. We are … going to have a single person accountable for the service, a new controller of BBC Sounds.”

The BBC iPlayer Radio app for iOS (Apple devices) had been downloaded 1.8m times by April 2013.

In March 2011 there were 38 million requests for BBC Radio programmes.
In September 2018,  there were 26.5m downloads of BBC podcasts in the UK;
worldwide there were 63m (24.5m of those were for World Service podcasts), according to a blog by Mr Purnell.

No--it certainly is not yet right--but perhaps after the new controller has restructured, refocussed and knocked a few crazy heads together, the app will start to shine

The New Controller should open the file marked " iPlayer Radio" that's working fine.

BBC Sounds is largely irelevant to me.

My preference is fast, simple access to live feeds of selected Network Radio, with the option of selecting ONLY my prefered stations.

Setting up Podcasts is complex.

The layout is complex, messy and full of irelevant material.

There are many other 'Apps' around which achieve the same result with less hassle, and are easier to customise.
