Title: No "L" in ILR?
Post by Administrator on Feb 26th, 2019, 12:28pm

"Radio Today"'s Stuart Clarkson has done some number-crunching, and has the opinion that possiby 250 commercial radio presenters might be out of work...

this is, he writes, as a result of OFCOM's "recent changes in localness guidelines".

The major commercial operators have grasped this "relaxation of localness", and have announced major changes to their output.

More information from "Radio Today" here.

This "tweet" from Radio Today...

"Capital, Heart, and Smooth radio stations are all ending local and regional breakfast shows this year as @Global introduces national programmes on all frequencies "

Basically, "Commercial LOCAL Radio" is no more... a "Commercial National Network" will be created, with perhaps two commercial providers...

As from today...

The BBC has a National Commercial network...as a competitor.. with microscopic local input.

But WHAT sort of 'LOCAL' input?...

Local Radio- Local Newspapers... who supports them?

Who is bothered?

"The Guardian" has a report, here, quoting the Global chief executive and founder, Ashley Tabor, who said the decision would result in “significant changes at an operational level” and would allow his stations to compete more effectively with the BBC.
