Title: iPlayer Consultation Post by Administrator on Jan 7th, 2019, 4:48pm "To reflect changing audience expectations and ensure the BBC can continue to serve audiences, the BBC is proposing to transform iPlayer, from primarily a catch-up and linear TV service into a destination for our audiences, where the BBC’s programmes will be available for longer, both for individual programmes and box sets." More information about the discussion is here, which links to the full document here. On no account look here, which refers to "Project Kangaroo'! On 30 June 2008, the UK's Office of Fair Trading referred the proposal to the Competition Commission with concerns that "there was a danger that the platform could be too powerful". The Commission published an interim report on 3 December saying that the service could "hurt competition" and a final report was published on 4 February 2009, formally blocking the project. Title: Re: iPlayer Consultation Post by WG on Jan 8th, 2019, 10:16am Very interesting. Quite a few caveats on costs and contractual rights-but this is the way the market has gone. A new IplayerTV is most welcome. The challenge will be just how it will be managed and operationally handle content. Including all and everything that is free of contractual obligation will clog up the app and turn off "the young" . Take care with the actual implementation too-the new Iplayer Radio( BBC Sounds) was under-developed and launched too early, meeting heavy criticism. |
