Title: Google-funded BBC?
Post by Administrator on Aug 23rd, 2018, 8:13am

According to this Guardian article, by Jim Waterson (Media Editor), Jeremy Corby proposes to reform UK media.
His speech is to be given on Thursday 23rd August at Edinburgh.

"Jeremy Corbyn is to propose a tax on big technology firms such as Facebook, Google and Netflix, to subsidise the BBC licence fee as part of a sweeping range of measures to reform the British media industry......

He will suggest that a new tax on such businesses could be used to provide a guaranteed income for the BBC and enable the national broadcaster “to compete far more effectively with the private multinational digital giants like Netflix, Amazon, Google and Facebook”.."

I think this is a good proposal, but should include Sky. It should be a levy rather than a tax, & could enable all the FTA broadcasters to compete for coveted sporting events which currently they are unable to do. How many more nationally treasured events are to be lost to the vast majority of the population who don't want to have to pay the greedy moguls of subscription TV in order to enjoy events that they have done for free for many years in the past.
Anyone agree?
