The famous Granada TV Studio Centre in Quay Street, Manchester is to open again...

This "Broadcast" report by Jake Bickerton describes the history behind the studio centre.

"Manchester’s  Granada Studios, home to Coronation Street, is to reopen as a TV and film studio in the coming year.

Property developer Allied London, which co-owns the site with Manchester City Council, said its new studio offering, "All Studios", will provide 100,000 sq ft of “purpose-built” film and TV studio space.

All Studios managing director Melanie Jones told Broadcast: “We want to be able to accommodate shiny-floor shows again. The decommissioning of the studio had already happened before Allied London got hold of Granada Studios, but most of it would be obsolete technology now. So we’ve got a blank canvas to work with.

Meanwhile, the BBC Manchester HQ in Oxford Road ..

" In 2010, the building was offered for sale as the BBC's move to MediaCityUK rendered it surplus to requirements and it was sold for £10 million in April 2011.

The BBC sign from the front of the building was removed in November 2011 shortly after the last department, regional TV, moved to MediaCityUK ending 35 years of broadcasting from the studios on Sunday 27 November 2011."
