Title: QUIET Revolution??
Post by Administrator on Jun 21st, 2017, 9:54am

According to this article on the "Broadcast Now" web-site, "Following the introduction of the EBU’s R128 standard seven years ago, loudness complaints have fallen dramatically"

Bill Brown, (ITV head of media standards for technology and platforms).

"Brown’s view that loudness has “almost disappeared as an issue” is echoed at the BBC, where principal technologist Simon Tuff says a look through the duty logs shows comments about variations in audio levels are down significantly over the past 12 to 18 months.".

No mention of clarity.. ease of hearing dialogue, over-use of music, or the balance of speech against FX or music.

Quite unbelievable....I was watch ing the output of BBC1 on Monday afternoon and every single programme had examples of action speech too quiet, voice over too loud and Continuity even louder than loud, let alone the amazing and continuing problem of intrusive music levels!
