Title: Helen Fawkes
Post by Amigo on Jun 12th, 2017, 1:51pm

London-based journalist Helen Fawkes has died.

For many years Helen had documented her treatment for cancer, the ups, and the (far too frequent) downs.

She had her own website, here:-

in which she described in great, and frequently very painful detail, her feelings about the treatment.

Helen had a BBC World Service programme about her 'Bucket List'.

In January 2013 "Ariel" had this feature about her:_

The "Daily Mail" ran a story here:-

Helen was a BBC correspondent for over a decade. She had been based in Ukraine, Russia, Serbia and Bosnia. When based in London, she covered national news.

Even during her treatment, she occasionally appeared on screen from some wet and windy location, filing a story.

She wrote..

"Thanks to the list [for living] I became a BBC foreign correspondent and had the most amazing adventure abroad. Now that the cancer is back for good I'm so glad that I followed my dreams”

Helen Fawkes"

There was a two minute tribute to Helen "26 minutes in" during the "The Six O'Clock News" on R4- by Angus Crawford.

For quite some years I have been following Helen's passage of life.

From the highs to the lows.

This, written by Joanna Jolly, includes:-

"It's not the years in your life that matter," Helen had written.
"It's the life in your years."

I am very happy that Helen and Luke got together.

According to her story, Helen never managed to swim with sharks or ride a camel across a desert.

Helen DID manage to sail alongside a pod of dolphins.

However...

of her 50 items on her "list For Living", she didn't manage to
swim with sharks..
take a dip in Iceland's blue lagoon, or
learn to play poker.

So if you manage to achieve one of the items on her list in the future, you did it for Helen as well as yourself.

I wish Luke every happiness possible.

I heard you, Helen.
