Title: iPlayer Abroad? Latest.
Post by Administrator on May 19th, 2017, 11:03am

The European Commision has finally ruled that EU citizens will be able to access their online services while in other member countries.

Content providers must check the user's member state of residence and then make the home country material available even though the user uses an IP address in a different EU country.

The definition of "temporary presence' has been clarified to say 'limited time period'.

It is expected that these new regulations will take effect from 2018, and the content providers have been allowed nine months to get their act together. The European Council and Parliament still have to formally confirm the new changes.

How (or even IF) this will affect BBC iPlayer isn't stated in this TVBEurope article.

Bearing in mind "Brexit", it probably won't!

Online providers such as Amazon Prime, Netflix, SKY's NOW TV will be mandated to make their material available.
