The Radio Times report is being updated here.

The BBC profile of Howard:-

Howard was born in London, but spent his childhood in Bexhill on the south coast.

After a spell training as a quantity surveyor, he decided his future lay elsewhere and joined the BBC as a studio manager. Then he moved through a series of production and journalism posts until he went freelance and began working as an announcer and newsreader for BBC World Service.

He joined Radio 4 comparatively recently and, in so doing, achieved a childhood ambition. He says: "I used to listen to Douglas Smith playing the announcer on Round the Horne, and dream of following in his footsteps."

When not on duty at Broadcasting House or Bush House, Howard is to be found at his home on the south coast surrounded by books, records, and assorted bits of audio and computer paraphernalia.

Nick Hingham's tribute:-
"RIP my friend Howard Philpott, Radio 4 announcer and newsreader, who died last night. A really lovely man".

Corrie Corfield's tribute:-
Dear colleague and friend, Howard Philpott. Such a wonderful b'caster, totally dependable, kind, funny and a bit naughty. You'll be missed.
