Gareth Bowen, a long serving BBC Wales journalist, News Editor and brilliant broadcaster, has died. He was 86. This is the BBC News report.

When I was working for a brief spell in the BBC Wales newsroom, Gareth asked me if, when I returned to BH in London, I would keep an avuncular eye on his lad Jeremy, who was just starting out on a broadcasting career. As it turned out, young Jeremy Bowen didn't need much help from me.
