Title: Sylvia Peters
Post by Bill Jenkin on Jul 28th, 2016, 12:17pm

The Times is reporting the passing of Sylvia Peters, the last of the original three in vision continuity announcers.  I would appear that so far BBC hasn't considered this news warrants any coverage.  http://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/register/sylvia-peters-26c06tvwn

Took them long enough Bill!

I've heard from Carmella, apparently Sylvia passed away in her sleep quite peacefully. Sadly she had been suffering from cancer for some time.

A charming lady, ever the professional and a dear friend, who will be sadly missed.

I think we all owe a debt to Sylvia Peters and her comrades in arms, Macdonald Hobley et al, because they schooled us in the perfections that television and radio now dismisses but which were the handrails and steps on which we relied as we - each of us - sought to carve out our careers. They had no such forbears.  They can "diss" received pronunciation and polished presentation all they like but there were no complaints about inaudibility or taste and decency in those days....it was the essential art of broadcasting to which we all aspired to emulate and we will never see their like again.
