Title: Lines / Frames? Post by Administrator on Aug 9th, 2013, 3:10pm Early 4K tests from the EBU show that viewers appreciate higher frame rates much more than increased resolution. Various frame rates up to 240 Hz (present frame rate is 50Hz) with different content genres are being rated by observers, using sequences in both uncompressed form and compressed with HEVC. "Early results give a clear indication that higher frame rates are appreciated by the observers, to a significantly greater extent than increased resolution. This supports the position that future UHDTV systems should include higher frame rates," the EBU added. So, it seems as though viewers prefer more frames and less "4K"? Source DTG:- |
Title: Re: Lines / Frames? Post by technologist on Aug 20th, 2013, 2:24pm this is not really new news - Richard Salmon and others at R&D were looking at this and getting results 5 years ago see http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/publications/whitepaper169 The sad thing is that no one would support the BBC and a few others though the ITU process to get the spec to run at multiples of 50 Hz or any rates above 120 ... BTW the TV Standard is UHD1 for 4 time HD and UHD 2 for 16 times - the NHK SHV |
