Title: Angela Bond
Post by Amigo on Mar 24th, 2013, 10:25pm

The Daily Telegraph has printed a tribute to Angela.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/culture-obituaries/tv-radio-obituaries/9951389/Angela-Bond.html

"Angela Bond, who has died aged 85, became the first woman producer of a pop radio show at the BBC, single-handedly launching the career of the anarchic disc jockey Kenny Everett, and was one of the architects of Radio 1."

"During her long BBC career, she devised new show formats that are still popular today and later, on Radio 2 from 1969, produced Pete Murray on his morning request programme Open House, booking guests including Muhammad Ali and Paul McCartney.
On her retirement from the BBC in 1987, Bond worked on developing computer software for scheduling music playlists on British radio. Knowing nothing about computers, she simply read an enormous manual, teaching herself everything she needed to know.
Her passion for music was unwaning, even in old age. Her London flat contained some 10,000 vinyl records and she continued to listen to current chart music until her death.
Angela Bond’s husband predeceased her in 1997, and she is survived by their daughter.
Angela Bond, born May 10 1927, died January 9 2013"

I had the privilege of working with Angela on many "Pete Murray Open House" Radio Two OBs.

She'd been a good friend to me, right from when she did Kenny Everett on R1, through my Production attachment to R2 and on into the mid-80s when we did some external work together.
Sadly, we'd lost touch, although I did see her briefly on the RCS stand at SBES one year.

Immensely talented producer, she had an extremely good knowledge of popular music - it doesn't surprise me that she still had so many records at her flat in The Barbican! - and she knew just how to deal with people.
Never afraid to say that something was crap, she always tried to get the best out of everybody in every situation.

I'm just sorry I was not aware of this sad loss until this posting of her obituary.
