Mel, Chris and Diane are very sad to confirm that Alec passed away unexpectedly on Friday 11th March.
Dad started his BBC career in transmitters, working in Kirk'o'Shots and Orkney, before moving into lighting. He worked in TVC, Lime Grove, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
After a years secondment to Dubai he became Man OPs in Edinburgh, during which he was very involved in the TV festival and the birth of "breakfast TV" when they put GMS on TV and Radio Scotland.
In the late 80s he moved back to Glasgow as head of the Film Unit Scotland.
At the start of the 90s he took early retirement, but did not retire from the broadcasting industry. He lectured in Skye (Sabhal Mor Ostaig) and Edinburgh, as well as serving Gaelic Broadcasting as a director of CTG and of Studio Alba.
Both his children (Chris & Diane) have also worked in the BBC for a number of years.

We will post funeral arrangements at a later date.

Chris & Diane

The funeral service for Alex will be held at Warriston Crematorium, Lorimer Chapel, on Saturday 19th March at 12 noon to which all friends and former colleagues are warmly invited.

Family flowers only, but donations, if desired, to be shared between three of the charities supported by Alex; Macmillan Nurses, Myeloma UK and the Royal Lifeboat Institution.
