Title: Calling ex Pebble Mill staff
Post by Roundabout on Jun 25th, 2010, 11:51am

Following an item in Prospero I responded with some memories of my Local Radio days at PM and am pleased to see that the site is now on-line,albeit still under construction. The Organiser is ex BBC and would welcome contributions from all staff who worked there in any capacity.

Following the success of the new website I was inspired by a set of photographs taken by Charles White to compose a short ode and set it to a selection of the pctures of the now derelict Pebble Mill site. You might care to view this at......

Thanks for the memories Pete. Sorry you couldn't make the gathering in August at Canon Hill centre, where I was delighted to meet some former colleagues including Nick Owen. I too went to gaze at Pebble Mill two years ago and took pictures. When I saw the derelict site it made me wonder why a move was made as I understand there was just a peppercorn rent.

Don't get me started on that one!!!!

Basically it was because the London mandarins didn't want any regional production centres.

The Lease was indeed peppercorn, about £125 a year I think.  There's a FoI on the move I requested a couple of years back, giving costs of moving out.  Can't find it on the bbc.co.uk FoI site, but I think they drop the older ones to keep the site small.

The costs of moving out plus those for the three premises PM was replaced by don't add up.  Plus PM was being considered as a Disaster Recovery Centre, which would have brought in income.

And now there's rumours of yet another move!!

And now there's the - wait for it - BS of Er - what's it called - Er, Ah Yes Salford.
Er right. Sort of a mirror image of ano kerching and triples all round isn't it!
Laws of Libel prevent further details re P. Mill farce.
