Byford on Dyke:
"In no way does what's happened mean that Greg and I won't continue our personal friendship. We are both in a different position to where we were a week ago. I respect his position and I know he respects mine. Less than four weeks ago Greg asked me to be part of a double act, work more closely with him. Now some people are trying to create division and that's nonsense."

Dyke on Byford:
"When I left on Thursday I told members of the Executive Committee that they all needed to support Mark Byford in the coming months. What had happened was not of his making. Mark is a fine man and over four years has given me nothing but support. Please help him through this time. I say that to everyone at the BBC."
