Title: dumbing down tabloid style
Post by david_france on Dec 19th, 2003, 11:42am

Surely no further proof is necessary to support the argument that Dyke is turning the Corporation tabloid after today's lead home news story?  Quoting The Sun (as distinct from finding stories of its own) Beeb news tops the bulletins with "Huntley's Mum Wants Him To Die".    I am sure we all remember a time when a story like this would not have seen the light of day. Nothing to do with censorship, we used to call it "taste and decency".  As if wall-to-wall coverage of Soham wasn't enough?   It is certainly a tragedy for all concerned but must it go on and on?  Well the answer is "Yes- if we can't be bothered to root out some proper stories".
Mind you, I am still fuming over the cancellation of schedules last night (Thurs 18 Dec) with no warning or apology, serving up yet another property programme (there were three on all at once across the channels) instead of  the very watchable Judge John Deed. Pah, Humbug! Anybody would think we didn't pay for this "service".  Happy Christmas everybody!  Happy Christmas everybody! Happy Christmas everybody!   (Christmas repeats again and again).
